So how about baby firsts these past two months? He can crawl at speed, he loves to cruise, but he has not quite taken an unassisted step. We've had to put up baby gates, of course, but he enjoys the extra mobility so it's all good. He's graduated to a crib (word, yo), and taken to it pretty well (fo' shizzle).
Tristan had his first flight on April 16th, to Memphis for a friend's wedding. Congratulations, Danielle! He did great, with hardly a fuss despite cramped space and turbulence. He stayed quiet through the wedding (those dog tranquilizers really did the trick) and manfully refrained from vomiting on anyone's dress clothes.
His tooth progress bar has reached 20%: four dagger-sharp little teeth. These let him grind meat from bones, though for the most part he prefers mashed-up peaches and sweet potatoes. He's enjoyed poblano, pears, prunes, potato, and peas, but not only things that start with "P". Onions and oranges, chickpeas and cheese, chicken and carrots, turkey and tomato, hamburger and... and... we'll think of an "H" food we can feed him, just for symmetry. Also banana, of course. He shows good taste in enjoying gouda, but lost all my respect for liking feta too. His latest solid food is a special mealy cherry-flavored Cheerio knock-off that looks like it's growing mold. Yum, especially after they've been sat on and/or ground into the carpet for a couple days.
Perhaps because of his teeth coming in, he adores ice water. He'll drink from a straw if you cover the far end to trap the liquid in the straw for him, and while he likes to chew on his sippy cup he is quite happy to drink straight from a normal cup, too. Speaking of water in its liquid state, he's also had his first swim, or rather splashed about in eight inches of water by the steps of the pool.
Oh yeah, and he can clap now! Well, he claps like a feeb, but he understands the concept. We'll drill him on execution.
